Promoting tourism in and around Vellore City, establishing decentralised organic vegetable markets, a cultural centre in Vellore Old Bus Stand etc are some of the suggestion made by participants at the two consultative meetings the Vellore Corporation held with the general public in connection with the Smart City project.

Commissioner Janaki Raveendran said that the administration is in the process of collating the inputs and suggestions given by the public for the Smart City project, including suggestion made online.

Under Pan City, ideas and suggestions on improving the transport, solid waste management and tourism development will be taken up.

“We are contemplating the promotion of adventure tourism like trekking in Sathuvachari Hills and Cultural centre in Vellore Old Bus Stand. Battery operated vehicles have also been considered in connection with promoting tourism,” said the commissioner.

Participants came up with innovative ideas such as a culture-centre and culinary exhibitions that portray the heritage of the city.
