The Zero Garbage Ward model at Katraj, a suburb of Pune in Maharashtra, has resulted in cleaner streets, segregation at the primary collection centre and increased door-to-door waste collection coverage. The positive results emerged after Janwani, the social initiative of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) joined the Pune Municipal Corporation efforts to clean up the town.

The waste-picker cooperative SWaCH, engineering company Cummins India and others joined the effort to promote this model of innovative waste management.
