Australian government has expressed willingness to extend support to develop Smart City in Nellore, a municipality in Andhra Pradesh known for its agriculture and aquaculture.

Sean Kelly, Australian Consul General in Chennai, called on Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana with the offer to develop Nellore as Smart City.

The advantage of Nellore is that there is abundant availability of land and it is close   to the sea coast, Krishnapatnam port, and Chennai airport.

Narayana asked Kelly to consider extending support to develop the temple town of Tirupati as a Smart City to which he responded positively, reports said.

The Minister said the US government has prepared an action plan to develop Visakhapatnam as a Smart City.
