The Smart Cities Mission project in Kochi is all set to get a fillip with the Cochin Smart Mission Ltd, the Special Purpose vehicle (SPV) formed for implementing the mission.
The first board of director’s meeting on March 28 assumes significance in the wake of getting the Central government’s first aid of Rs 2 billion in this financial year itself.
“Only after sending the minutes of the meeting to the Government of India, will the formalities for getting the financial aid would be complete,” said Mohammed Haneesh, Secretary, Local Self-Government Department and Mission Director of the project. “Along with other important agenda, the decision on the banking partner will be taken at the meeting,”
An eight-member committee has been formed for the SPV. Mayor Soumini Jain, Cochin International Airport Authority Ltd Managing Director V J Kurian, Corporation Secretary Amith Meena, Principal Secretary (Ports) James Varghese, former Chief Secretary Jiji Thomson, Mohammed Haneesh, Kerala Metro Rail Ltd Managing Director Elias George and Ajit Patel are included on the board.
“As we have only a concept note for the Smart City Mission project implementation and a Detailed project report (DPR) has to be prepared based on that, a project consultant has to be appointed,” Haneesh said.
“We also have to hold discussions with many other agencies for implementing the project and that will be discussed in the first board of directors meeting,” he added.
However, a decision on appointing the Chief Executive Officer for the Cochin Smart Mission Ltd will be delayed. Though there were reports on appointing Corporation Secretary Amith Meena as the CEO, the Mayor dismissed such a suggestion.
With the formation of the SPV, Kochi came third in forming the SPV after Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
