The Haryana Real Estate Regulation Authority (HRERA) Act, 2016 constituted specifically for Gurugram, has come into effect as of Feb 6, 2018.
Two separate HRERA acts have been constituted; one for the State and the other for Gurugram as most of the cases and deputes pertaining to the Real Estate sector are in Gurugram.
Dr KK Khandelwal has been appointed chief of the Gurugram bench and is tasked with resolving complaints filed under the HRERA Act within 60 days, ideally.
The HRERA act allows for criminal case status and penalties of up to 10 per cent of the project value to be issued to builders in case of fraud.
“It is good for buyers in Gurugram that they will have a redressal authority at their doorstep. The home buyers need to follow the procedure required in the HRERA rules for filling any complaints against the builders. If the complaints are not in the proper format it will not be cancelled,” Khandelwal, said.
While the Act has been drafted with the primary goal of settling disputes between homebuyers and developers, the government hopes the bill will ensure transparency and accountability in the real sector business.
